Teaching My Kid To Read

My kid is now 5 years old and I want to actually start teaching him how to talk and read if possible. I was told by my mom that when I was at this age, I was already talking in full sentences and I could easily read children’s books too. So with that, we all assume now that my own kid must have the same blood as me and maybe could also be taught early, as anyway he will be going to preschool in a year’s time too. Better start him early at this time was the decision both my wife and I made.

We got online to search for teaching methods for kids, and what we came up with was this phonics based reading. Difficult as it may sound based on the name, I actually found out this was the most commonly used method that maybe I even used too when I was a kid. Using the sounds of each alphabet and letters, you would teach a kid how to pronounce and read at the same time.

By breaking down words into their phonics, you can easily teach the kid both reading and speaking it at the same time. It was very viable, and we even downloaded some online instructional videos so we can watch it first and then we will start teaching it to our kid soon after.

As it turned out, my kid was a natural. He was able to understand the phonics easily and since we are coaching him and teaching him the sounds and he imitates us, I know it won’t be long before he really starts speaking and reading full sentences on his own. I hope he really surpasses me when he grows up, and at the moment, I really am a proud dad to this amazing kid.

Your Child Can Read!

Here is a video that combines reading and learning to read with singing. This method has been used with some success by other parents. Very interesting system.
